Epok loves the "enlightened" !
In her webzine 1 Epok formidable, Anne Eveillard paints a beautiful, detailed, and well-documented portrait of Céline Wright, or "the Enlightened One" as she calls her! From her inspirations, her 30-year journey, her creations, her strong taste for Japan, her stay at Villa Kujoyama which gave a new dimension to her work, her projects, her summer quarters in the new workshop in Montolieu in Aude where she plans an original luminous event on August 8th with other artists, musicians, calligraphers, etc., and the start of the new season with a retrospective during Paris Design Week in September..., nothing is missing, or rather, everything is there! Thank you, Anne Eveillard, for this lovely and pleasant encounter. www.1-epok-formidable.fr

30 Years of luminous creations
in Japanese paper
30 years of luminous poetry…Craftsmanship, creativity, exploration of washi paper, and a return to Japan! For thirty years, Céline Wright has been exploring light as a living material. Blending craftsmanship and design, her Japanese paper lamps diffuse a soft, enveloping light that evokes nature, the movement of air, and the fragility of life. Inspired by the delicate transparency of washi paper, her creations seem to float in space like light clouds. Through organic, refined shapes - cocons, pleine lune, oiseaux or chrysalide - the designer develops a unique aesthetic language that is both minimalist and poetic. Céline Wright’s designs have found their way into private homes, hotels, restaurants, museums, and architectural projects around the world. © Marie Hubert Psaila In her workshop located in the Paris region, each light fixture is handcrafted using techniques inherited from Japan. This artisanal craftsmanship gives each piece its own unique character and reflects Céline Wright’s commitment to respecting time, materials, and the environment. Nature remains the central theme of this world: cocons, chrysalides, lunes et oiseaux take on luminous forms that invite us to daydream. © Anne Emmanuelle Thion Céline Wright’s life has been deeply shaped by Japan. She spent part of her childhood there, where she developed an aesthetic sensibility rooted in simplicity, nature, and an appreciation for the beauty of movement. This influence would continue to shape her career. In 2022, the designer was selected for Villa Kujoyama, a prestigious French artist residency in Kyoto. For six months, she deepened her research on washi paper there and created monumental installations. Two “Abris-Cocons,” each over four meters in diameter, were exhibited at the Kyocera Museum during the Nuits Blanches, while the installation Unkaï, suspended in the courtyard of Villa Kujoyama, explored the interplay between paper, bamboo, and the landscape. © Yuya Miki In 2026, Céline Wright will celebrate 30 years of creation. The year will feature a series of exhibitions, events, and projects that showcase the evolution of her work, which blends contemporary design, artisanal craftsmanship, and Japanese inspiration. Over the years, the collections have been expanded to include unique pieces and custom-made projects created for stage designs and art installations. By setting up her summer quarters in the Manufacture Royale of Montolieu, in the Aude region, Céline is taking up residence in a new 200-square-meter creative space. She is thus continuing her explorations of volume, lightness, and movement... “I want to make the paper fly”, she says. Céline Wright continues to explore a realm at the intersection of art, design, and craftsmanship. § Some of the iconic models include : The COCON collection, is our absolute bestseller. The Giboulées, Cumulus et Nuage, models, available in various shapes and sizes, are instantly recognizable by their marble counterweight pebbles.

Cloud Sky at Groupama, Paris
A composition of 9 Cirrus and 11 Clouds illuminates the new headquarters of Groupama, rue d'Astorg 75008 Paris, designed by the architectural firm Kardham. An original scenography designed to reproduce the natural lighting from sunrise to sunset. The lights diffuse a soft light and are relayed by an ingenious system of LED lighting - automatically controlled - reproducing the lights from dawn to dusk, very white in the morning and increasingly warm until the orange of the evening, in an effect of shadows and lights on the clouds. More real than life...

Scenography for the Osaka 2025 World Expo
"Dialogue of light and washi" For one weekend, a special exhibition organized with our Japanese partner, Hiyoshiya, was held at the French Pavilion of the World Exposition in Osaka-Kansai. We presented Céline's work on light and washi paper, as well as Hiyoshiya's traditional umbrella making. Their love for handmade work and washi paper unites them. Presentation of the "Cocoon" model created especially for Japan, workshops, installations and performances staged with the collaboration of calligrapher Hiroshi Ueta... Two days to introduce the Japanese —and not only them— to Céline Wright's universe. A return to her roots and a consecration for the artist-designer whose destiny is inextricably linked to the land of the rising sun.
