30 years of luminous poetry…
Craftsmanship, creativity, exploration of washi paper, and a return to Japan!
For thirty years, Céline Wright has been exploring light as a living material. Blending craftsmanship and design, her Japanese paper lamps diffuse a soft, enveloping light that evokes nature, the movement of air, and the fragility of life.
Inspired by the delicate transparency of washi paper, her creations seem to float in space like light clouds. Through organic, refined shapes - cocons, pleine lune, oiseaux or chrysalide - the designer develops a unique aesthetic language that is both minimalist and poetic.
Céline Wright’s designs have found their way into private homes, hotels, restaurants, museums, and architectural projects around the world.

In her workshop located in the Paris region, each light fixture is handcrafted using techniques inherited from Japan. This artisanal craftsmanship gives each piece its own unique character and reflects Céline Wright’s commitment to respecting time, materials, and the environment.
Nature remains the central theme of this world: cocons, chrysalides, lunes et oiseaux take on luminous forms that invite us to daydream.

Céline Wright’s life has been deeply shaped by Japan. She spent part of her childhood there, where she developed an aesthetic sensibility rooted in simplicity, nature, and an appreciation for the beauty of movement.
This influence would continue to shape her career. In 2022, the designer was selected for Villa Kujoyama, a prestigious French artist residency in Kyoto.
For six months, she deepened her research on washi paper there and created monumental installations. Two “Abris-Cocons,” each over four meters in diameter, were exhibited at the Kyocera Museum during the Nuits Blanches, while the installation Unkaï, suspended in the courtyard of Villa Kujoyama, explored the interplay between paper, bamboo, and the landscape.

In 2026, Céline Wright will celebrate 30 years of creation. The year will feature a series of exhibitions, events, and projects that showcase the evolution of her work, which blends contemporary design, artisanal craftsmanship, and Japanese inspiration.
Over the years, the collections have been expanded to include unique pieces and custom-made projects created for stage designs and art installations.
By setting up her summer quarters in the Manufacture Royale of Montolieu, in the Aude region, Céline is taking up residence in a new 200-square-meter creative space. She is thus continuing her explorations of volume, lightness, and movement...
“I want to make the paper fly”, she says.
Céline Wright continues to explore a realm at the intersection of art, design, and craftsmanship.
