Cleaning & maintenance
Cleaning & maintenance
To care for your Washi paper lampshades, we recommend dusting them regularly using a feather duster, a microfibre cloth or the small (clean) brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. For small stains (such as insect marks), you can use a cloth slightly dampened with clean water (without detergent) or gently scrape them off with the tip of a craft knife.
How do you smooth out a Washi paper lampshade ?
How do you smooth out a Washi paper lampshade ?
It may be that during a move, handling, storage, building work, or a change of location, your lampshade becomes slightly misshapen. Don’t worry! Washi paper is very easy to reshape, and you can straighten it out yourself.
To do this, work on the lampshade from the inside by reaching your hand through the opening. Use the palm of your hand or a wooden spoon and gently massage the surface, applying light pressure until the lampshade returns to its original shape. If this doesn’t really solve the problem, it is also possible to order our lampshades as spare parts.
The imperfections in Washi paper
The imperfections in Washi paper
Imported from Japan, washi paper is an organic, "living" material, wich may occasionnally show slight imperfections.
Handcrafted, each light is unique and may display characteristics specific to our manufacturing process : strips of paper glued one by one with a brush onto a mould, natural drying in our workshop, and hand-finished details. As a result, slight bubbles, irregular creases, and colours that vary slightly from one model to another may appear.
These characteristics are by no means flaws, but rather a testament to the unique, handcrafted nature of each of our light fittings.
