Scenography for the Osaka 2025 World Expo
"Dialogue of light and washi" For one weekend, a special exhibition organized with our Japanese partner, Hiyoshiya, was held at the French Pavilion of the World Exposition in Osaka-Kansai. We presented Céline's work on light and washi paper, as well as Hiyoshiya's traditional umbrella making. Their love for handmade work and washi paper unites them. Presentation of the "Cocoon" model created especially for Japan, workshops, installations and performances staged with the collaboration of calligrapher Hiroshi Ueta... Two days to introduce the Japanese —and not only them— to Céline Wright's universe. A return to her roots and a consecration for the artist-designer whose destiny is inextricably linked to the land of the rising sun.
Scenography Cocoon-earth, Emergence Biennial 2025
Scenography presented at the Emergence 2025 Biennale. A meeting of the delicacy of Kozo paper and raw earth. Céline Wright and Johan Depres, both recipients of the Villa Kujoyama in 2022, share a love for craftsmanship and raw materials. Their desire to combine their expertise gave birth to a cocoon lamp with a raw earth shell and a kozo paper corolla delicately placed in an imperceptible movement... New to the catalog, available in two sizes.
Céline Wright at Oui Design, New York!
Céline Wright was present on May 17th and 18th, 2024 in New York , at the event “ In Praise of the Hand - Artistry and Design ”, organized by our American partner Swadoh . Located in the prestigious Karen Pearse showroom, in the heart of 5th Avenue , Céline Wright was able to present her handcrafted work, showcase her expertise and artistic creations . Oui design is an initiative of the Villa Albertine , supported by the Institut français and presented in partnership with the Mobilier national . The objective is to strengthen cultural ties and dialogue between the French and American creative communities. The 2nd edition of Oui Design took place from May 15 to 21, 2024, during the NYCxDESIGN Festival in New York . Set design and performance in the showroom...
Céline Wright and Hiroshi Ueta , a calligrapher from Kyoto, combined their shared interest in Japanese art during a performance at the Parisian showroom. Blending art, design, and innovation, this encounter was an exceptional opportunity to showcase the techniques of Japanese paper and calligraphy. This led to the design of the " In To Yo " light fixture, made of kozo paper, which was later customized for the restaurant "Les deux garçons" at the French Institute of Kansai. This form and the use of this paper with its exceptional qualities are the result of Céline Wright's research and experimentation during her residency at Villa Kujoyama in the fall of 2022.
20 years of the cocoons event
In 2019, Céline Wright celebrates 20 years of cocoons, its most iconic shapes. For the occasion, Hiroshi Ueta, a Japanese calligraphy artist, realises a calligraphy performance blending art and poetry on she Cirrus. This evening, punctuates by a Japanese atmosphere, showcases Céline Wright’s universe, delicately distilled in all her creations.
